TitleGrace, Michael Anthony: certificate of election to the Royal Society
DescriptionCitation typed
CitationDistinguished for his researches in radioactivity, particularly his pioneering work on the anisotropy of emission of gamma radiations from oriented nuclei. The Clarendon orientation group within which Grace has from the beginning borne the chief responsibility for the nuclear physics was the first clearly to demonstrate nuclear orientation and since then has been the most productive in the field. Grace's suggestion for the combining of anisotropy with gamma-ray linear polarization measurements has given rise to a standard technique for the simultaneous determination of mixing ratios and the spin and parity of nuclear states.
