DescriptionCitation typed. Unusually small certificate taken from a booklet reproducing the form of certificates in use but not intended to be used as a certificate. A letter verifying the legality of the certificate is attached.
CitationDistinguished for his contributions to carbohydrate chemistry. He was the first person to synthesize sucrose. His numerous publications (78) illustrate his versatility and his use of physical approaches to the elucidation of carbohydrate conformation and structure. He was the first person to show that nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy could be used for this purpose. He is well known for his work on the structure of streptomycin and the sugar components of other antibiotics and for his investigation of mechanism of reactions in sugars.
