TitleRiley, Ralph: certificate of election to the Royal Society
DescriptionCitation typed
CitationDistinguished for his cytogenic work in the Triticinae, especially the discovery of the genetic control of specificity of meiotic chromosome pairing in Triticum aestivum and elucidation of the formal genetics, evolutionary origin and significance, and cytological action of the system concerned. He has also described other genetic effects on meiotic chromosome pairing, proved that genetic similarity is involved in secondary association at meiosis, and contributed greatly to our understanding of the detailed cytogenetic organisation of polyploid species and of the evolutionary origins of Triticum species. He has made outstanding use of alien chromosome substitutions in investigations of general importance to pure and applied cytogenetics. (List of 46 publications attached).
