CitationDistinguished for his researches in the theory of numbers and in analysis. His memoirs on the geometry of numbers have added greatly to our knowledge. In recent years he has made novel applications of abstract algebraic geometry to a variety of questions in the theory of numbers. He has also made important contributions to the art of computing through his association with the Cambridge Mathematical Laboratory.
