TitleZiman, John Michael: certificate of election to the Royal Society
DescriptionCitation typed
CitationDr. Ziman is known for his work in theoretical solid state physics, particularly on electrical and thermal conductivity and the relation between them. In his book "Electrons and Phonons" and in his work on phonon drag he shows how experimental evidence in this field can be used to obtain information about the Fermi surfaces of particular metals. His work on scattering of phonons by point defects and interaction between phonons has greatly increased our understanding of thermal conductivity of insulators. In recent papers he has put forward the generally accepted theory for the electrical properties of liquid metals.
