TitleHeslop-Harrison, John: certificate of election to the Royal Society
DescriptionCitation typed
CitationDistinguished for his researches into the taxonomy and cytogenetics of the Britisy dactylorchids and his writings on general taxonomic problems; and for his more recent investigations into the experimental control of flowering and sex in Angiosperms. In his work on orchids he has made successful use of detailed biometrical analyses as well as of cytological and ecological data, and his small book on Flowering Plant Taxonomy has proved a valuable introduction to modern thought on the subject. The studies of the control of sex in Angiosperms have shown experimental resourcefulness and interpretative insight and have enlarged our understanding of these complex phenomena. Recently Professor Heslop-Harrison has begun a very promising study of the role of RNA in leaf development.
