TitleJosephson, Brian David: certificate of election to the Royal Society
DescriptionCitation typed
CitationJosephson's best known work is the prediction of the flow of a superconducting current through a tunnel barrier, which is known as the Josephson effect. This discovery has been widely acclaimed as one of the most important in solid state physics in this decade. He has also done important work on the Doppler shift in the Mossbauer effect, and his work on critical phenomena is contributing in an important way to this very difficult branch of physics. He combines to an exceptional extent deep physical insight with facility in mathematical methods.
