CitationArchibald Edward Russell has been engaged in the design and development of aircraft since he joined the Stress Office of The Bristol Aeroplane Co. Ltd. In 1926. He was appointed Chief Designer of Bristol's Aircraft Division in 1943, and in 1955 became Chief Engineer. He has been responsible for the design of such famous aircraft as the British Freighter, the Brabazon, and the Britannia turboprop airliner, which is now in service with many of the World's airlines and with the R.A.F.
Russell has played a leading part in the conception and design of the supersonic Concord airliner. Until his recent appointment as Managing Director, he was the Technical Director of the British Engineering Group collaborating with the French, and he still continues to carry a major responsibility for the engineering of this difficult project.
Russell has an international reputation, and has lectured throughout the World.
