CitationStewart has made outstanding theoretical and experimental contributions to the study of turbulence both in wind-tunnels and in the atmosphere and ocean. He has made many contributions to knowledge of ocean waves, and has clarified the mechanisms of wave generation in stratified fluids. He is the leader of a group at the University of British Columbia which is foremost in the study of the interaction between wind and sea. His work is characterised by an abundance of new ideas and deep physical insight.
