Citation | Distinguished for his researches on the molecular dynamics of the chemical reactions of gases. His work on the infra-red chemiluminescence from the reaction of hydrogen atoms with a wide range of reactants and the detailed study of the distribution of rotational, vibrational and electronic energy among the reactants and products opened up a new area of study of reaction dynamics and of the forces operative during the course of a reaction. Later these studies were extended to include the dynamics of reactions forming ionic bonds namely, the alkali metal and halogen molecule family of reactants and to the study of reactions of excited atoms. His work is characterised by its experimental elegance and thoroughness, marked originality and deep theoretical insight. A list of fifty-five publications is attached. |
