TitleReason, Richard Edmund: certificate of election to the Royal Society
DescriptionCitation typed
CitationMr. Reason has designed an outstanding series of instruments, combining the features of kinematic design with the experience of Taylor Hobson in the precise working of surfaces of optical quality. Starting with the development of a good electronic transducer for small linear displacements of a stylus, he has designed unique instruments, he has solved the problems of putting them into full scale production and of making them work reliably under widely varied conditions. His instruments, which currently sell at a rate of about £2M per year with 60% being exported, have made possible substantial advances in applied metrology.
