DescriptionCitation typed
CitationDiscovered the presence of 'sex chromatin' in cells of human females as well as in females of other mammalian species. Introduced a cytological test for the detection of sex chromatin, which is used for genetic analysis of individuals as well as for mass surveys of newborn and adult populations. Showed the dependence of sex chromatin on the presence of two X chromosomes in the individual's cells. Shared in the demonstration that, in addition to recognition of the normal female XX and male XY chromosomal patterns, the sex chromatin could be used to identify persons with abnormal sex chromosome complexes (such as XXY in Klinefelter's syndrome, XO in Turner's syndrome, XXXY and XXXXY errors in males, and XXX and XXXX errors in females). Added to knowledge of mental and physical disorders caused by abnormalities of the sex chromosome complex. Contributed to the cytological and genetic properties of the X and Y chromosomes.
