TitleRees, Charles Wayne: certificate of election to the Royal Society
DescriptionCitation typed
CitationDistinguished for his contributions to the mechanistic interpretation of organic reactions with particular reference to the heterocyclic series. His work on ring expansions, molecular rearrangements, and on reactive intermediates, including free radicals, carbenes, nitrenes and benzynes, is particularly outstanding. He has also made major contributions to our knowledge of the chemistry of N-oxides, inter-nuclear cyclisation reactions, and oxidation reactions in the carbohydrate series. He is the author of several reviews on organic reaction mechanisms and of a book on Carbenes, Nitrenes and Arynes. A list of more than 100 publications is appended.
