TitleLane, Anthony Milner: certificate of election to the Royal Society
DescriptionCitation typed
CitationDistinguished for his contribution to the theory of nuclear structure and of nuclear reactions. His many contributions include a quantitative study of intermediate coupling in light nuclei, which established this as a consistent and realistic model. With Wigner and Thomas he contributed to the understanding of the single-particle resonances in heavy nuclei. He developed a comprehensive description of nuclear reactions which connects the various known methods for dealing with such problems, and applied it to the study of a number of important situations. He recognised the isospin dependent of the optical potential and played a leading part in the understanding of isobaric analogue states.
