Title | Moran, Patrick Alfred Pierce: certificate of election to the Royal Society |
Description | Citation typed |
Citation | Distinguished for his many original contributions to statistical theory and inference, particularly to mathematical genetics, the theory of storage and geometrical probability. His pioneering work on a general theory of storage has stimulated much further research. His book on the processes of evolutionary genetics is the first mathematically rigorous detailed investigation of this topic, and again has been the forerunner of many other theoretical researches. His own more recent contributions include a demonstration of the non-existence of adaptive topographies based on fitness in the case of two or more gene loci. His work on geometric probability includes important contributions to random packing and coverage problems, and to the theory of statistical maps. |
