Citation | During the 17 years that he spent on the research staff of the Animal Virus Research Institute at Pirbright, Dr Henderson made several valuable contributions in animal virology, including the development of quantitative methods for testing virus infectivity and the characteristics of vaccines. For the next 7 years he was Director of the Pan American Foot-and-Mouth Disease Center in Rio de Janeiro, where he helped to make important progress towards the prevention and control of this and other vesicular diseases in South America. He is currently Chairman of the Scientific Advisory Committee on Zoonoses of the Pan American Health Organisation. He then returned to England and in 1967 became Director of the A.R.C. Institute for Research on Animal Diseases at Compton. Since 1972 (December) he has been Secretary of the Agricultural Research Council. |
