TitleWood, Ronald Karslake Starr: certificate of election to the Royal Society
Date1969
DescriptionCitation typed
CitationDistinguished for his contributions to physiological plant pathology and especially for his investigations into the role of fungal enzymes in the causation of soft rots and of the vascular wilt syndrome. He has also added much to knowledge about host factors that limit the infection process and the size of lesions caused by several bacterial and fungal pathogens. His researches have further included biological control of plant diseased and adaptation of pathogenic fungi to fungicides. Wood's recent book, 'Physiological Plant Pathology', is the first of its kind to have been written by a single author, and has been widely acclaimed as an outstanding feat of synthesis.
