CitationOutstanding clinical student of intellectual functions of the brain. This first in her study of memory, and the inability to form new long-term (more than two or three minute) memories following loss of the hippocampus, with disastrous effect for the patient. She and her students provide the only valid account of prefrontal-lobe function. In the loss of fluency and flexibility of though following scar-free lobectomy. With use of the sodium-amytal-injection method, she has provided the definitive data on the localization of speech, left or right, in relation to handedness, and with her students has demonstrated and extensively analysed the severe impairment of pattern perception (visual, tactual, and auditory) that follows right temporal lobectomy. The leader in this clinical-psychological-neurological field.
