TitleHill, Sir John McGregor: certificate of election to the Royal Society
Date1978
DescriptionCitation typed
CitationAs Member for Production in the UKAEA, Sir John Hill was responsible for converting a defence-oriented organisation into a vigorous commercial fuel company and it is his work of those years which laid the foundation for the technical and commercial success of BNFL today. He has helped create, with German and Dutch partners, a successful centrifuge technology for enrichment of uranium.
Sir John became Chairman of UKAEA in 1967 and has guided the work of the Authority through very difficult years, rapid changes of Minster, and frequent changes of Government policy. The need for nuclear power now seems to be understood and Sir John's contribution has been outstanding.
