TitleSpalding, Dudley Brian: certificate of election to the Royal Society
Date1982
DescriptionCitation typed
CitationSpalding is distinguished for many important theoretical and experimental contributions to the engineering sciences of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics and combustion, heat and mass transfer, and combustion. To take two examples only, his pioneer work on the general theory of heat and mass transfer with chemical reactions has been widely used in engineering applications and his unified theory of turbulent boundary layers has enabled a wide range of phenomena, such as separation, influence of mass transfer, to be treated theoretically. His more recent work has concentrated on numerical solution of a wide range of problems in fluid mechanics. He is internationally known for his fundamental research in many areas within his field and his innovations are widely used at home and abroad.
