TitleAlbery, Wyndham John: certificate of election to the Royal Society
Date1978
DescriptionCitation typed
CitationDistinguished for his work on the kinetics of processes occurring in solution and at electrodes. His basic theoretical studies have been the major contribution to the development of the ring-disc electrode as a versatile experimental tool. He has introduced or extended its use in the investigation of diffusion, rapid homogeneous reactions, photogalvanic phenomena, corrosion, and in electroanalytical problems. As a more recent development, Albery has designed and initiated the application of tube electrodes in kinetic e.s.r. studies of electrochemically generated radicals. He has developed new theoretical methods for the analysis of kinetic hydrogen isotope effects and has made extensive precise measurements in this field with the help of novel differential experimental methods. With Jeremy Knowles, he has successfully applied such investigations to the elucidation of enzyme mechanisms.
