TitleBullough, Ronald: certificate of election to the Royal Society
Date1982
DescriptionCitation typed
CitationDistinguished for his outstanding contributions to the theory of radiation damage, void swelling and radiation creep. His theory of void growth in irradiated metals is a brilliant self consistent synthesis of the mechanisms of interaction of point defects, dislocations, gas bubbles and voids, applicable to metallurgically complex materials subjected to severely damaging fluxes at high temperatures, and has been of major importance in helping to define the operating regime of the prototype fast reactor. He is recognised as the world's leading theorist in this field. He has also made many important theoretical contributions to the structure and energy of dislocations of various kinds, the interactions of point defects with dislocations, the clustering of radiation-induced defects, and the interpretation of electron microscope images by computer simulations.
