TitleCox, Keith Gordon: certificate of election to the Royal Society
Date1982
DescriptionCitation typed
CitationOutstanding for his work as an igneous petrologist. He has contributed much to the understanding of continental flood basalt volcanism in general and to the understanding of its chemical characteristics. His studies of the Karroo igneous suite of Southern Africa and of the ultramafic mantle nodules transported to the surface in such areas have provided an understanding of mantle partial melting and the diverse processes that can affect the fusion products before they reach the surface. He has devised new ways of handling and interpreting petrochemical data that have led to new insights into basalt petrogenesis. He is author of several text-books distinguished for their lucidity and rigour.
