DescriptionCitation typed
CitationDistinguished for his work on ionspheric physics, aeronomy, radio and space science. Over a period of thirty years Mitra has made many theoretical and experimental contributions to our understanding of the photochemistry of the lower ionosphere and to the development of D-region models for normal and disturbed conditions. He has carried out extensive studies of solar flare effects in the ionosphere and developed several techniques for the analysis of sudden ionospheric disturbances associated with flares. In recent years Mitra has worked on problems relating to stratospheric and tropospheric chemistry and in particular on irreversible aspects of the changing atmospheric environment.
