TitleMorris, Howard Redfern: certificate of election to the Royal Society
Date1981
DescriptionCitation typed
CitationDistinguished for developing new methods for the structure determination of complex biological molecules and for developing new instrumentation including the field-desorption source and high-field magnet in mass spectrometry with which the structural determinations can be extended to new areas. His methods have solved many important problems. Morris produced the first complete protein sequence to be determined without the aid of chemical methods; he identified the kidney hormone 1,25 dihydroxycholecalciferol, several neuro-peptides from brain and pituitary including Enkephalin and Slow Reacting Substances of Anaphylaxis. His techniques and methods are now being extended to study involatile high mass molecules such as biopolymers.
