TitleSeshadri, Conjeeveram Srirangachari: certificate of election to the Royal Society
Date1982
DescriptionCitation typed
CitationSeshadri has been one of the most influential mathematicians working in the area of invariant theory and its application to the theory of moduli. He has made fundamental contributions to classical invariant theory, to the construction of orbit spaces and to the theory of vector bundles. His discovery, jointly with M.S. Narashimhan, that, over compact Riemann surfaces, direct sums of stable holomorphic vector bundles were the bundles associated to unitary representations of pi1, and that these formed the points of a projective moduli space, was an important breakthrough which opened up a major area of investigation.
