TitleHunt, Julian Charles Roland: certificate of election to the Royal Society
Date1982
DescriptionCitation typed
CitationDr J.C.R. Hunt is distinguished for his contributions to many diverse fluid-mechanical problems of industrial and social significance. His talent is to recognise the fundamentals that underlie practical problems and to exploit his profound understanding of physical mechanisms for their solution. Among the topics he has illuminated are liquid-metal flow under magnetic fields in ducts and induction furnaces, aerodynamic oscillation of suspended cables, dispersion of pollutants from sources in the atmospheric boundary layer, turbulence and pressure fluctuations in flow past bluff bodies, buildings and hills, effect of wind on people, and effects of stratification on air flow over hills and on the dispersion of pollutants. By his many publications, his wide personal contacts, and penetrating analysis and advice as a consultant, he has had a significant influence on industrial and environmental developments.
