TitleCory, Suzanne: certificate of election to the Royal Society
Date1988
DescriptionCitation typed
CitationDr. Suzanne Cory is distinguished for her contributions to the molecular biology of normal and malignant lymphoid cells, often in association with Dr. Jerry Adams. Pioneering studies on messenger RNA structure were followed by an analysis of immunoglobulin genes and their reorganization within lymphocytes. Key contributions included enumeration of the variable region gene repertoire and the demonstration that a deletion mechanism switches expression from one class of immunoglobulin to another. Novel insights regarding neoplasia have arisen from their discovery that a chromosome translocation characteristic of B lymphoid malignancies is produced by recombination of an immunoglobulin gene with an oncogene, and from their creation of transgenic mice prone to haematological malignancies.
