TitleFarquhar, Graham Douglas: certificate of election to the Royal Society
Date1992
DescriptionCitation typed
CitationProfessor Graham Douglas Farquhar is one of themost [sic] eminent plant physiologists today. Trained in biophysics, he has been extraordinarily successful in the application of simple physical theory to resolution of problems in plant biology from the cellular to environmental scales. His principal achievements have been in the reduction of complex photosynthetic and respiratory metabolism to simple models for interpretation of tissue gas exchange and isotopic fractionation. The integrations achieved through his models, and thenew [sic] experimental approaches based on these models, have had enormous impact in photosynthetic, environmental and ecological research. His work has stimulated predictive analyses extending from photosynthetic light reactions in thylakoid membranes on the one hand to, most recently, vegetation-atmosphere interactions on the global scale. His research has changed the way we think about plant physiology generally, and continues to lead the field in several specialist areas.
