CitationJulian Jack has made outstanding theoretical and experimantal contributions to our understanding of synaptic transmission in the central nervous system. He is the author of an important analysis of the spread of the electric signals along the dendritic cable system of neurones in the spinal cord and he has been responsable for an elegant and very sophisticated study of the quantal process of transmission at central synapses. He is recognised internationally as a leader in the field of central neurophysiology, and all his work is distinguished by a very high standard of mathematical as well as experimental accomplishment.
