CitationP C Ruffles has had a distinguished career in the field of gas turbine engineering and technology, covering 35 years and leading to his present appointment as Director - Engineering of Rolls-Royce Aerospace Group.

Most of that career has been involved with the RB211 and Trent engines, from the formative early phase in the late 1960's to the present highly successful developments in which the company has benefited from technical excellence in increased market share. The technology is particularly advanced in the application of fluid dynamics and material science.

He has an outstanding grasp of complex technical issues and provides strong leadership to his engineering team. The combination is formidable.
