Citation | Distinguished for his pioneering work in the application of knowledge based computation to the realisation of complex systems. His early studies of optimal queuing strategies for multi-processor packet communication systems led to the need, and implementation, of virtual machines for simulation. Dr. Taylor then embarked on a wider appraisal of intelligent knowledge based systems (IKBS) culminating in a report (ref 13) which was to dominate the UK strategy in this field. In 1984 Dr Taylor became the founding Director of the Hewlett-Packard in Bristol, a position which he still holds, in addition now to responsibility for all HP research in Europe. The Laboratory has proved to be an outstanding success, with responsibility for a large segment of HP business interests - including internet, security, multi-media and mobile computing technologies. He is recognised as a major contributor to these technologies and as an inspirational leader of industrial research. |
