TitleFerguson, Michael Anthony John: certificate of election to the Royal Society
DescriptionFirst of two certificates for this Fellow. Revised citation on second certificate. Citation typed
CitationProfessor Ferguson defined the chemical structures of anchors by which hundreds of proteins are attached cell surfaces. The identification and ubiquity of these glycolipid anchors significantly influenced views of the molecular organisation of plasma membranes and offered new options in cell signalling and cell to cell interactions. His work is especially relevant to the virulence and transmission of pathogenic protozoa and could lead to the development of new drugs for human diseases
