CitationDr Goedert is distinguished for his elucidation of events underlying the assembly of tau protein into the major fibrous component of lesions found in the brains of Alzheimer's patients. He provided evidence for the genetic basis for the critical pathological event in the formation of Alzheimer lesions. Recently, he has broken new ground by discovering alpha-synuclein protein in the lesions in the brains of people suffereing from Parkinson's disease
