Citation | Professor Sweeting has pioneered a revolutionary modular microsatellite design which has dramatically reduced costs and increased the flexibity of small space missions. Twelve low-cost microsatellites are functioning in orbit with three more due for launch. Current developments include on-board propulsion for a lunar mission, low-cost options for intersatellite communications, and new antenna structures to improve imaging resolution. This work has been recognised in many arenas, including the Silver Medal of the Royal Academy of Engineering, the 1996 Queen's Anniversary Prize awarded to the University of Surrey and the 1998 Queen's Award for Technological Achievement awarded to Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd |
