TitleKarplus, Martin: certificate of election to the Royal Society
DescriptionCertificate of Candidate for Election to Foreign Membership. Citation typed
CitationProfessor Karplus has made many seminal and profound theoretical contributions to both chemistry and the chemical basis of biology. The "Karplus equation", relating nuclear magnetic resonance coupling constants and structure, opened up the field of conformational analysis of organic molecules and biological macromolecules. His fundamental studies of chemical reaction mechanisms and pioneering work on molecular dynamics have led to a fusion of theoretical chemistry and structural biolgoy that has transformed our thinking about the functioning, folding and activity of biological molecules
