TitleYanagida, Mitsuhiro: certificate of election to the Royal Society
DescriptionCertificate of Candidate for Election to Foreign Membership. Citation typed onto separate piece of paper and pasted onto certificate
CitationProfessor Yanagida's work focuses on chromosome structure and segregation in fission yeast. His key discoveries include the characterisation of the structure of centromeres and proteins that bind to them and are required for chromosome movement. He has also discovered a host of genes needed for triggering chromosome segregation and for chromosome movement. Many of the proteins involved in chromosome dynamics revealed by Professor Yangida's pioneering genetic and functional analysis of the cell cycle in fission yeast are now known to be involved in human cells
