TitleSibson, Richard Hugh: certificate of election to the Royal Society
CitationOne of the greatest challenges of modern Earth Science of the post plate tectonic period involves the understanding of the processes which produce discontinuities in the crust, and the mechanisms of stress release, faulting and fracturing of the crust. If one reviews the modern literature of fault mechanics, fluid flow, even resource formation related to fluid flow, the work of Richard Sibson is always highlighted. Sibson's work over the past twenty years has been at the forefront of many of the modern developments in this field of modern structural geology and the relations between crustal deformation, seismic mechanisms, metamorphic processes, and the role of geofluids.
