TitleSarukhan, Jose: certificate of election to the Royal Society
DescriptionPrinted form. Citation typed on a separate sheet and pasted onto certificate.
CitationIn classic studies of the dynamics of natural populations of plants in pastures and in dry and wet tropical forests in Mexico, José Sarukhán laid the foundations for plant population biology to develop as a practical and theoretical science. He has inspired two generations of Mexican students and streams of international associates with his deep Darwinian insights into tropical ecology, conservation and biodiversity. Over ten years as elected Rector of UNAM he brought profound wisdom to the development of research and education in Mexico. He brings this same wisdom and commitment to international issues of environmental policy and ethics.
