TitleDasgupta, Partha Sarathi: certificate of election to the Royal Society
DescriptionWord processed form.
CitationSir Partha Dasgupta, a graduate in physics, mathematics and economics, has made uniquely outstanding contributions to several areas including environmental biology and ecology. He was one of the first economists to consider the role of natural resources in providing essential ecological services and his book, 'The control of resources', became a milestone in the history of environmental economics. His work on environmental resources in poor countries revealed the consequences of environmental degradation to the poorest people. Dasgupta's papers on nutritional needs and the effects of undernutrition on human behaviour were summarised in another book which became a classic. He has brought new ideas to the understanding of optimal population growth, to measuring human well-being, and to how competition fosters technological innovation.
