Citation | Professor Day is distinguished for his wide ranging and influential work in quantitative epidemiology, mainly in cancer but expanding into other areas in recent years. In particular, his two volume monograph (with N.E. Breslow) gave a definitive account of statistical methods in cancer research. His contributions to the study of cancer screening include responsibility for the concept, design and analysis of the main international collaborative study of cervical cytology screening, the findings of which are the basis for national screening policies. He has been responsible both for projections of future AIDS incidence and for identification of information (e.g. unlinked anonymous serial seroprevalence needed for monitoring the epidemic). |
