TitleHinds, Edward: certificate of election to the Royal Society
DescriptionWord processed certificate.
CitationEdward Hinds is distinguished for experimental investigation of fundamental atomic physics in three linked areas: (i) the physics of ultra-cold atoms, including the construction of magnetic atom optics elements with great potential for integrated atom optics on a chip for quantum information processing (ii) precision measurements and fundamental symmetry tests, especially of time reversal, (iii) cavity QED and atom-surface interactions including the observation of Casimir forces and the suppression of spontaneous emission in microcavities. His work on atom optics, particularly on the use of magnetic structures has been hugely influential. He has built up, initially in Yale and more recently in Sussex, internationally respected research groups.
