CitationOver a 40 year career devoted to attacking the most challenging problems, Peter Goldreich and his close collaborators have made seminal contributions to an unparalleled range of topics in planetary science and theoretical astrophysics, including: (i) the theory of resonances, which he has applied to planetary rotation, satellite orbits, rings and extra-solar planets, (ii) spiral arms in galaxies and planetary rings, (iii) the electromagnetic description of pulsars and planetary magnetospheres, (iv) the principles governing astrophysical masers, (v) the theory of astrophysical turbulence, especially as applied to helioseismology and the interstellar medium, (vi) the explanation of white dwarf oscillations, and (vii) the theory of formation of planets, stars and galaxies.
