CitationJane Lubchenco is an outstanding environmental scientist and marine eologist with very broad interests in understanding the natural dynamics of the Earth's ecosystems and developing new approaches to understanding the functioning of ecological systems. Her research interests include marine conservation biology, biological diversity and ecological causes and consequences of global changes. She has focused on rocky intertidal shores around the world examining the ecology of seaweeds, plant-herbivore interactions and community dynamics. She has received numerous awards including a MacArthur Fellowship, a Pew Fellowship and the 2002 Heinz Award in the Environment. She also has been an outstanding leader in national and international scientific bodies, most recently as President of ICSU.
