Citation | Elliot Meyerowitz has carried out pioneering research in plant molecular and developmental biology. He played a central role in introducing and developing Arabidopsis as a model for plant research. Using this system he formulated a model for how the basic plan of flowers is established, the ABC model, which has become a paradigm for developmental studies. He also discovered and characterized the first plant hormone receptor and was the first to identify genes restricting cell proliferation in the plant growing tip. His exemplary discoveries have provided a fundamental framework around which much research on plant development has been built. |
