Citation | David Barford has made fundamental contributions to our understanding of the control of cellular processes by protein phosphorylation. He determined the first structures of all three major types of protein phosphatases. His subsequent structural and other studies have provided mechanistic insight into their catalytic action, regulation and substrate recognition. He was the first to determine the structures of the TPR domain and the HEAT motif repeat. His structure determinations of the protein kinases, PKB/Akt and B-RAF, has explained how these key elements of intra-cellular signal transduction pathways are regulated and provided the basis for their development as therapeutic targets. |
