TitleNarayan, Ramesh: certificate of election to the Royal Society
DescriptionCertificate of Election
CitationRamesh Narayan is an exceptionally versatile and influential theoretical astrophysicist. His work on radiately inefficient accretion flows has revolutionized our understanding of accretion onto compact objects, and may resolve the fundamental problem of why most nearby black holes are dark despite the presence of ample fuel. He has made fundamental contributions to understanding gamma-ray bursts, pulsar demography, image reconstruction, accretion disks, gravitational lenses, interstellar scintillation, and other subjects. His work is marked by exceptional clarity, direct observational relevance, and by a powerful command of physics and applied mathematics.
