CitationMalik Peiris is distinguished for his contributions to human viral infections causing respiratory disease. His team was one of three that discovered the SARS coronavirus and ascertained the clinical progression and recovery from disease in respect to pathology and viral load. Peiris has also made an immense contribution to our understanding of avian
influenza A in Hong Kong and its threat to human health. He has mapped the recombinant origin of H5N1 influenza strains. Peiris also made a seminal contribution to antibody enhancement of Dengue and West Nile virus infection. He is a clinical scientist par excellence.
