TitleBrezin, Edouard: certificate of election to the Royal Society
CitationEdouard Brézin has made profound contributions to statistical physics and field theory. His work on broken symmetries and phase transitions through the systematic application of renormalisation group methods illuminated and inspired a whole generation of theoretical physicists. He has also made fundamental contributions to the understanding of gauge field theories, and more recently has elucidated many of the universal properties of random matrices. In the last decade he has served tirelessly and with distinction as a scientific leader at the highest levels in France, promoting thoughtful, forward-looking policies.
