TitleBickle, Michael James: certificate of election to the Royal Society
DescriptionCertificate of election
CitationProfessor Bickle has made major contributions to understanding the evolution of the Earth through geological and geochemical research. His work includes pioneering studies on the thermal evolution of mountain belts, the tectonic and igneous processes that operated in the early (Archean) Earth, the physical processes of melting the Earth's interior, quantification of the fluid flow in rocks metamorphosed at high temperature and pressure, and studies of the geochemistry of rivers to evaluate the long-term fluxes to the oceans and long-term controls on climate. He has produced novel research on a remarkable range of major issues on how the Earth works.
